Song of the Day: "Follow Trees" by The Native Sibling

>> Sunday, April 29, 2012

I love hunting for "soul-quaking" music. I love searching to that one "life-changing" song with will solve all your problems in 4 part harmony. I think it is the journey to find the tunes that really stirs me, and stokes this passion. Don't get me wrong, the music matters, but it's the trek towards the noise that I always remember. You always hear people say, "I remember exactly where I was when..." And that is exactly how I am with the noises that move me and have inspired this obsession. Rarely do songs like this come directly to me. Rarely.
Recently The Native Sibling reached out to us on our Facebook Page, and stole my breath. I realize that sounds very romanticized, and it very well may be, but I'm the one writing this, so I get to be romantic if I want.
This Santa Cruz brother & sister duo make noises to die for. As she sings lead, he supports her effortlessly. Their harmonies are so beautifully delicate that its clear they've known each others voices forever, I guess, as family should.
Right now, they only have one song to consume, which is unfortunate. But, as soon as there is more, I will be sure to post it here.
There are very few bands that can get me as excited as this with one song. If you want to download this song, it is available for free on their Bandcamp page.

Song of the Day: "On Your Way" by Alabama Shakes

>> Friday, April 27, 2012

I know everyone is talking about Alabama Shakes, they are the blog band of 2012. And the stubborn side of me has been resistant. I hate bandwagons. But in this case, screw that. This record is one of the early stand outs of 2012, and I cannot ignore it any longer.

I am trying to get back in the mode of doing a Song of the Day, on a daily basis. My bad. I could say I got distracted. I could say that I got busy. But mostly, I stopped being inspired by the music options presented to me in 2012. And I got a little burnt out. But I am feeling refreshed and inspired.

Song of the Day: "Stubborn Love" by The Lumineers

>> Wednesday, April 25, 2012

I have purchased 93 albums so far in 2012. And it's not even May. To be honest, this year has been pretty weak on the musical front, I was ready to consider the first half of it a total wash. A failure. That was until I got my hands on The Lumineers self-titled debut. It may have saved the entire mess of a year. You're welcome 2012.

I have been apprehensively excited for this record since I stumbled across a live clip of "Ho Hey" back in December, worried that it might fail to live up to what I hoped from it. Damn it feels good to put that worry to bed.

Infinite-Mixtapes Sample: The Ultimate Sad and Mopey, Wallow In Bed Breakup Mixtape

>> Saturday, April 21, 2012

Here is a taste of what I (Addi) am up to on my side project blog Infinite-Mixtapes. It would be awesome if you popped over to check it out, and maybe follow or something. It's not as commonly updated, but I think the stuff over there is pretty solid.

I am going to try and convince Stevie to post a sample of her side project blog I Adore Inspiration here soon too. Aren't we impressive.

So, I fail. This blog got real quiet. I got frustrated by my playlists not working, and song being blocked on the site by WMG, but I am over that now. I got an email about a week ago from a lady with a very difficult request. Apparently, she may be dealing with a break up, because she asked me to provide a soundtrack. Not the "I'm over this bullshit, and better off" kind of soundtrack, but the "I am going to cry and eat my weight in Ben & Jerry's" soundtrack. So, I hope you are doing OK lady, and here is the music to hurt too.

If you'd like to make a request of your own, email me here. I will happily post it here, and if you leave me a name and address, I'll send you a copy in the mail.

This is a video Playlist. Hit Play, if you don't like the song, hit the button to the right of the play button and move onto the next. Enjoy

Song of the Day: "Moondance" by Van Morrison

>> Monday, April 9, 2012

I know the blog has been quiet lately. I only posted 5 times in March, but life has felt heavy lately, but it seems like the fog is clearing, so, let's get back on track with a classic.

Stand up and spin your loved one around in concentric circles. Dance. Enjoy.

Song of the Day: "Fire" by Carson Henley

>> Sunday, April 8, 2012

Every nowandthen, we at Listologies get contacted by management, labels, artist reps and occasional artists themselves asking us to review or share their sound on our site. Most of the time, I let these requests fall to the wayside. Not because I am above it all or anything like that, but because, mostly I don't want to share something that I can't stand behind, and not all the sounds that filter into our inbox are gems. However, I do listen to everything that comes our way, because you just never know. And because of that OCDness, we have a great tune to share with you today.

Earlier this week The Artist Rep from Hey! Listen To This! Music contacted us about a new project that Carson Henley just finished up that kinda blew me away. For 100 straight waking hours, he, with the help of a worldclass producer, and a bevy of fantastic musicians (just from watching the trailer, I see Tess Henley & Allen Stone) locked himself away in a studio to write, compose, learn, and record an entire album. Yeah, that's right. An entire record, start to finish, in 100 hours. Seems like a cross between the best and the stupidest idea ever, which I think is the line any true artist needs to learn to walk. Judging from the results, Carson found his sound.

If you are a NW audiophile like myself, then you no doubt already know and are probably a fan of Carson Henley, as he has been one of the driving forces in the Seattle Soul scene since his 2008 debut album. But, if you are like me, you may feel that he has been slightly in the shadow of his younger sister Tess for the last couple years. But, from the sound that is pouring out of him on the track "Fire" below, I think that shadow is quickly shrinking. But damn! What a talented family.

Below the track, there is a trailer for the Documentary for the 100Hour Project that will be released around the same time as the album. I am stoked for both. Enjoy.

Best Voices In The Northwest

>> Wednesday, April 4, 2012

So, I don't know how many times I can apologize for letting the blog go quiet. I have had some family shite rise up, and I have just been a bit distracted. But last night, as I was failing to fall asleep, I started writing a list in my mind, and it felt therapeutic.

There are very few things in this world that can stop me dead in my tracks like a voice. Whether it be a powerful, beautiful, understated, gruff or quirky. A voice can break me. Here is a quick list of my favorite voices in the NW right now. Normally, I try to get all poetic and long winded, but this time, I am just going to allow the voices to sell you.

1. Galen Disston (of Pickwick)

2. Abby Gundersen I know she is most well known for singing along side of her brother (below), but there is something so pure about Abby's voice that it is impossible to forget. I hold my breath when she sings.

3. Noah Gundersen

4. Charity Rose Thielen (of the Head and the Heart) Don't get me wrong here, Josiah and Jonathan both have heartbreakingly fantastic voices, but Charity kills me when she sings.

5. Tim Wilson (of Ivan & Alyosha)

6. Brandon Ghorley (of The BGP

7. Allen Stone

8. Meagan Grandall (of Lemolo)

9. Sarah Jickling (of The Oh Wells)

10. Matt Bishop (of Hey Marseilles)

11. Asy (of Smoosh) I know, not really a NW band anymore, as they relocated to Brooklyn or something, but us NW music lovers still claim them as our own.

12. Mychal Goodweather (of Campfire OK)

13. Bryan John Appleby

14. Pete Quirk (of The Cave Singers)

15. Tess Henley
